Lunar New Year

By the Acuworx Team

On February 17, 2026, we welcome the Chinese Lunar New Year and step boldly into the Year of the Fire Horse. The Horse brings a dramatic shift in momentum! This is a year of movement, vitality, expression, and courage. Fire adds passion, warmth, and visibility, encouraging us to live more authentically and to take inspired action. This energy supports creativity, independence, and speaking (or living) your truth with confidence.

Lunar New Year is traditionally a time for renewal and fresh starts. Customs often include cleaning the home to clear out stagnant energy, decorating with red for luck and protection, sharing meals with loved ones, and setting intentions for the year ahead. At home, you might light a candle to honor the Fire Horse’s energy or journal about what you want to move toward this year. Additionally, you can celebrate with foods that reflect abundance and vitality, including long noodles to symbolize longevity, oranges or tangerines for prosperity, dumplings for wealth, and warming soups or stews to support digestion and qi.

Key TCM Principles for Spring:

  • Element: Wood (Growth, Flexibility, Liver/Gallbladder).

  • Energy Shift: Transition from Winter's rest (Water) to Spring's upward, outward Yang energy.

  • Organs: Liver (direction, emotions) and Gallbladder (decision-making).

What to Do (Wood Element Support):

  • Eat: Fresh greens, sprouts, pungent herbs (scallions, garlic), sour foods (lemon, vinegar), light meals.

  • Avoid: Heavy, fried foods, excessive sugar, alcohol, and dairy.

  • Move: Gentle exercise, morning walks, Tai Chi, stretching to promote Liver Qi flow.

  • Emotions: Journal, breathe, express emotions calmly; avoid anger/irritability.

  • Herbs: Peppermint, Dandelion, Chrysanthemum, Cassia Seed (consult a practitioner).

When it Starts:

  • Start of Spring (Lichun): Around February 4, 2026.

  • Spring Equinox (Chunfen): Around March 20, 2026 (equal day/night).

2026 Specifics (Year of the Fire House):

With the Year of the Fire House (starting February 2026), Fire energy (passion, enthusiasm) is strong, so balancing it with Spring's Wood (growth) is key, using acupuncture or herbs to calm potential excess Fire (anxiety, insomnia). From a Chinese medicine perspective, the Fire element is associated with the Heart, making this an especially powerful time to support emotional balance, circulation, and overall vitality. Acupuncture treatments around the Lunar New Year are a beautiful way to reset your nervous system and support your health as you move into a more expressive and energized cycle.

As we welcome 2026, we invite you to honor both where you’ve been and where you’re going. Book a session to step into the new year feeling balanced, supported, and ready to move forward with purpose.
